Today we launched release R10 for QuickBooks 2011 for Mac that fixes all the known issues with QuickBooks 2011 running on Lion. These fixes make QuickBooks 2011 for Mac compatible with Mac OS 10.7 (Lion). QuickBooks 2011 for Mac is now supported on Lion.
We’ll continue testing when the final version of Lion is released and work hard to get you any fixes that may be necessary as soon as possible.
If you’re using QuickBooks 2011 for Mac, please update your software.
- If you don’t have QuickBooks open, you’ll be prompted to update the next time you use QuickBooks.
- If you have QuickBooks open, choose QuickBooks > Check for QuickBooks Updates.
- If you’re not sure if you have the R10 update installed, choose QuickBooks > About QuickBooks. You should see QuickBooks 2011 for Mac, Version V12.0.9 R10. If you don’t have this version, choose Quickbooks > Check for QuickBooks Updates.

Hi everyone,
Our testing on Lion continues. We know a lot of you out there have the GM that was released last week, so we wanted you to know the issues we know about so there aren’t any surprises.
Known issues:
- Emailing forms in PDF doesn’t work. Update here: Previously we said that you could save a form as PDF and manually attach it to an email, but our testing team corrected us. Like printing, it’s not currently working. We’re working hard to correct this and will have more information soon.
- Printing crashes. We’re working in high gear on this one. The good news is that not everyone is seeing this.
- Crash Catcher crashes. This is our reporting tool that sends info back to us when you experience a crash. We do appreciate the irony.
- If you don’t have Java installed, registration will fail. When you register, you’ll see a windows that says your registration is successful, but it’s really not. Keep going and open QuickBooks. You’ll see is a window that says “To open ‘java’, you need a Java runtime. Would you like to install one now?” So here’s what you do:
- Click Install and install Java.
- Quit and restart QuickBooks for Mac.
- You’ll be asked to register again. Use the same phone number and zip code you used the first time. You’ll see a confirmation that you’ve registered.
We’re working hard on fixes to all these issues, and will have more news for you soon. We appreciate your patience.

In our previous post below, we said that “at this time, no version of QuickBooks for Mac is supported on Lion.” That seems to have caused some confusion, and we’re sorry for that. Our bad. Lion is still not released to the public and there’s still the possibility of some changes, so today we aren’t supporting QuickBooks on an OS that isn’t final. But we are testing and will have more news about QuickBooks for Mac and Lion soon. Because your financial data is so important to your business, we want to be very conservative and be sure we complete our testing before we can confidently give you the go-ahead to upgrade. We will post known issues on Lion later today.
For a good discussion about what’s going on with Lion, check out this post on our community: http://community.intuit.com/posts/qb-for-mac-and-osx-lion
We appreciate your patience while we continue our testing.

Like a lot of Mac users, everyone here on the QuickBooks for Mac team is excited about the upcoming release of Mac OS 10.7 “Lion.” You may be wondering how Lion will affect you as a QuickBooks for Mac user.
At this time, no version of QuickBooks for Mac is supported on Lion. We’re in the process of assessing the compatibility of QuickBooks 2009, 2010, and 2011 for Mac. We are working hard to identify issues and will share more information soon.
So what should you do?
- If you can wait to upgrade, just keep using QuickBooks with your current, supported Mac OS X version. That way your financial data remains safe and you can continue working without disruption.
- If you must upgrade to Lion, you can set up a separate Snow Leopard partition on your Mac to continue running QuickBooks.Apple explains the process here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4722
We appreciate your patience and will contact you with more information soon. To get our most current status check back here. We’ll be posting updates regularly up to and beyond the release of Lion. You can also get updates on our Facebook page or Twitter.
Stay tuned! We’ll have more information soon.
