QuickBooks and Mountain Lion

Like many of you, we here in QuickBooks for Mac land have been eager to get our hands on Mountain Lion. Personally, I’m so looking forward to so many features.

With any new operating system, the questions are not just about the OS itself but also the software that runs on it. And you’re probably wondering about QuickBooks. So here’s the scoop.

QuickBooks 2012 is supported on Mountain Lion. We continue our testing and will keep you posted on any updates that you may need to install. In the meantime, be sure you have the latest release of QuickBooks by clicking QuickBooks > Check for QuickBooks Updates to install the updates.
QuickBooks 2011 and prior is not supported on Mountain Lion. If you decide to upgrade your OS, you may find that most things work for you, but if you run into a problem, we may not be able to help you. To minimize the chances of running into issues, you should make sure you’ve installed the latest update for your software. To find and install an update, click QuickBooks > Check for QuickBooks Updates.

What to do if your version of QuickBooks is not supported on Mountain Lion

If you’re not ready to upgrade to QuickBooks 2012, you do have options:

Don’t upgrade to Mountain Lion…yet. It may not be the right time for you to upgrade your OS. It’s important that you check all your software on the Mac you use for your business to be sure that it’s all compatible with Mountain Lion. One thing to consider is that software you use for your business may be tax-deductible , so that may help with the cost of upgrading your software. Check with your accountant to be sure.
Install Mountain Lion and create a separate partition to run Lion and the software you don’t want to upgrade. This isn’t an ideal solution. But it does make it possible for you to run Mountain Lion while still using software that’s not compatible with it. Here’s an article on how to do this.
